We seem to imagine that a trip to a luxurious day spa will involve at least one glass of wine and fancy food along with a whole lot of pampering. And some spas do offer exactly this—which is fine on occasion.
But if we’re focusing on living the S.P.A. Life as a daily framework for restoring ourselves to health and well-being, should we follow suit and pour ourselves a glass every day to relax? Probably not.
Turns out, you would have to drink a lot more wine than is healthy (or wise) to get the same amount of polyphenols and antioxidants everyone goes on and on about that you’d find in just plain grapes.
It might be more fun, and affordable, to chill a bunch of big, juicy grapes in a beautiful bowl and take them with you into your evening bath experience. It’s worth a try!
And then, maybe on special occasions, splash out with a glass of wine. To enjoy wine healthfully, the best advice is to treat yourself to just one glass of wine (5 oz. = 1 standard U.S, serving), once or twice a week, especially paired with a high protein meal.
